Consumables are items that are used up or discarded after a single use, such as gloves, safety goggles, or welding rods. These items are essential for the day-to-day operations of an organization but do not have a long-term useful life. Tracking and managing consumables can be challenging, but it is important to maintain adequate stock levels and prevent unnecessary waste or overspending.
Consumable items are assets that will be used / consumed during normal work (like welding rods or water bottles). They are also referred to as Material. They are tracked as a group and auto removed from ownership based on time as they are consumed.
Consumables are checked out to people, can be reserved, services and moved across locations. As consumables are used over time, they are not expected to be returned. (But can be if there is excess left at end of the Job!)
If you have 10 Boxes of Welding Rods, add one Welding Rod and set quantity as 10.
